Walk
WALK with your brothers and sisters along
the busy thoroughfares of earth.
Whisper a few words of encouragement to those whose souls
have been broken upon the rack of earthly suffering.
May their pain be eased as they as they accept
the balm of loving kindness from the light.
May their tears cleanse their spiritual vision and may they pierce
the veil of forgetfulness and brush aside the curtain of illusion.
May the tinsel and glamorous mirage of culture
hold no fascination for them.
May they leave the forest of enchantment and climb up
the hard and stony way that leads to the summit.
May they exchange their costly raiment for the plain
garb of disciples on the heavenly path.
Along the path, may they bend down to lift up a little worm,
a little beetle, a wounded robin, a bleating kid.
Who will befriend the downtrodden, the untouchables, the homeless,
the teeming masses daily foraging through piles of rotting garbage for a scrap of sustenance?
We are our brother's keeper!
We are our sister's keeper!
